We've been MSR Studios for about a month and a half now, things have been pretty busy around here.
We've slowly but surely started with our remodeling of the facility (pictures will come as we progress), starting with a new paint job and furniture in studio A's lounge, new TV's in the A and B lounges, and some new signage in the entryway (finally!)
Like I said, slowly but surely, since we've had to work around sessions so as not to disturb them (which is a good problem to have, certainly not complaining there). Pat Metheny recently spent 5 weeks in studio B working on his newest project with Steve Rodby and Joe Ferla. It's a pretty ground breaking, top secret project, so I'll let Pat and co. tell you about it when they do the great reveal on tour. Don Hunerberg and Milton Delugg spent some time in studio A getting prepared for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (which has come and gone, til next year!). We recently coordinated a live, on location recording for Donnie McClurkin (recorded by MSR Staff engineer Chris Soper) at the Greater Allen Cathedral, which consisted of a 60 piece choir and 8 piece band. And in November, Studio C (our premier mix room) saw a rotating cast of Hi Tek and Talb Kweli with mixer Pat Viala, David Archuleta with producer Jeymes Samuel and mixer Tom Soares, and Swizz Beatz working on a number of different projects with Pat Viala again at the board.
We're plotting and scheming our studio B revamp, which will begin after the New Year. Until then, Frank Filipetti has been kind enough to let us hang onto his Euphonix System 5, after which point we'll be replacing it with... well you'll find out soon enough. Our Chief Engineer, Bradshaw Leigh, is currently at work desiging a new speaker system for the room, and anyone familiar with the custom 18" subs he designed for studios A and C knows that they won't be left wanting for volume OR clarity.
Speaking of Brad, he's got a new blog up recounting some of his years in the industry, tech tips, and general goings on at MSR Studios. It's HERE, and you should read it.
Til next time,
Matt
